Don't remember if I mentioned this before, but when I got back from Denver in January, I lost the initial enthusiasm for getting this place ready to show in case some weirdo decides it's worth buying. Must have been the cold, but I was overcome by all the things that needed attention and fell into a blue funk and didn't do ANYTHING much. THIS TIME I'm attempting valiantly to maintain my energy and get something done. I know the best approach is "ONE DAY AT A TIME" but before it seemed like a thousand days weren't enough for this huge project. This time I plunged into a little area and have worked my way into a larger one with some progress gradually emerging.
The breakfast room hasn't been my favorite, especially since one of the cats decided to use the breakfast room carpet for a liquid litterbox. There are already THREE litter boxes for THREE cats in this place, but it's unmistakeable that one of them (or maybe more) has decided that the carpet is preferred. When I came back last Thursday evening, walking into the back door made me actually nauseated from the odor. Jack and Joseph had steam cleaned, but it still smelled to high heaven. I've lived here for over ten years and until these past few months, the entire place hasn't smelled AT ALL. Now it reeked. SO out has come the carpeting and IN has come the same flooring that was newly placed in the kitchen a few months ago. It has greatly improved the look of the place--not to mention a delightful absense of smell.
I am also working to eliminate some superfluous stuff that will go to Craig's list for furniture sales as soon as I figure out HOW to do that. I'm getting RID OF ALL THE EXTRA that has accumulated here in ten years. Simplifying and down-sizing, hoping to gain back some of the moolah that I spent on it when I first got here and was going to all those antique sales. Before 9/11, there was a place here which supplied interior decorators and would let plebians in once a month to see what they had imported by carload. (No longer possible b/c of stringent regs to deter terrorist importing bad stuff....the place has closed due to that occurrence.) It was a LOT of fun to go and walk around and decide if I could use some of the things they had brought in, especially since it was mostly solid wood furniture and affordable compared with the junk found at places like WallyWorld and Big Lots and even Ikea. SO I have about twelve pieces of solid wood furniture -- really nice antique-type stuff that will not be making the trip West whenever I EVER get going. Hope to be able to flog it via Craig's List, after having taken measurements and photos of it all. I've been told over and over that this place needs to be cleared out and made to look spacious, so I'M TRYING....it's HARD! On the other hand, it's really good for me to cut down on all the baggage....most of which is just taking up space and much less is never even thought about.
Still not sure of Garbo's pregnancy....hope fervently that the breeding took, for I could not only use a black bitch but the money from pups, especially since it's cost plenty to even get the breeding done in the first place. Her vulva still looks swollen (good sign) and she seems to be pouching out a bit. Has only been four weeks, so it's too early to tell.
Later will watch the last of this year's AMERICAN IDOL contestant night. Am SO impressed with Crystal Bowersox, and have to confess an equal like for Lee DeWyse, so it really won't make a difference who gets it, both deserve it IMHO. I enjoy this program even though it's pretty silly of me at this age. After this one's over, there's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, a program I also enjoy. My overall favorite is TOP CHEF, but it's off for the season right now. Second by a hair is PROJECT RUNWAY. To me these four reality shows are a LOT more entertaining and interesting than the trumped up ones that don't have a creative bent.
There's the phone....off to see what somebody wants now. Maybe a prospective pup buyer??? Have had quite a bit of interest in this Garbo/Monkey litter in spite of not being out there flogging it. The combination of pedigrees ought to be spectacular. Ciao for now, P

My Garbo puppy is spectacular and every one who sees him tells me how beautiful he is. Today he swam for the first time.. He needed some coaching and dear Jack swam back across the pond three times to show him the way.... and then after standing there up to his neck in water he took the plunge.
ReplyDeleteHats off to you for purging stuff. I have moved way too much stuff to GA and now I am dragging it house to house!
